April 8th, 2024
Hillsboro, Tx
I'm hard pressed to find anything more stunning than a total solar eclipse. When the moon blocks the sun in its entirety, and the sun's corona is on full display. Solar prominences, jets, and plumes. Absolute majesty. The temperature drops, the bird song fades, and the crickets. Can you hear those crickets!?
Beginning of Totality
What's the big deal anyway?
April 8th, 2024 totality graced the continental US for the last time...until 2044 that is. If you're really itching for the experience you can join us crazy people in Nome, Alaska March 30, 2033.
This years eclipse featured a guest appearance by Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks and a "Planet Parade". Unfortunately, the clouds were a major player in this year's event throughout the US and we were unable to capture the comet or the other planets while scrambling to modify settings moment by moment.
We traveled from Vancouver, Washington to Hillsboro, Tx. Over 2000 miles, one way. That included renting a van, an outrageously priced AirBnB, and eating all the gas station food.
The funds spent to share this experience with my kids, family and friends, was exactly the right amount. Dollars mean nothing. The memories are truly priceless.
Stay tuned. More images to come!
